FotoClave 2014 - November 7-9, 2014
Sponsored by the Northern California Council of Camera Clubs (N4C) with the support of the San Joaquin Valley Council of Camera Clubs (SJVCCC) and clubs from the former Central California Counties Council of Camera Clubs (6C), FotoClave is an annual weekend conference begun in 1957 that offers extraordinary speakers for an entire weekend. Traditionally, it has two keynote speakers of national renown and a full day of educational talks by well-versed local photographers. In addition, FotoClave continues the practice of an annual photographic competition among the three councils in both prints and electronic images. Information about the competition can be found on this website.
This year FotoClave will be held at the Concord Hilton hotel beginning Friday evening, November 7 with Canon Explorer of Light Rick Sammon. Saturday will host speakers Michael Frye, Gary Crabbe, Gail Pierce, Eric Harness, Pat Toth-Smith, John Ballou, Lisa Rigge, Joe Hearst and Michael Maloney covering a wide-range of photographic topics, among them how to take unique images in Yosemite, iphonography, using the Photographer’s Ephemeris, creating extraordinary images from ordinary objects, and hand coloring digital prints.
Saturday evening directly following the banquet, we will hear a presentation byf Tony Sweet, a Nikon “Legent Behind the Lens.” who will also give us instruction on Sunday morning. Tony specializes in flower photography, in-camera techniques and uses a wide variety of post-processing software.

FotoClave is an annual conference and competition held by three regional groups: Northern California Council of Camera Clubs (N4C), Central Coast Counties Camera Club Council (6C), and San Joaquin Valley Camera Club Council (SJVCCC).
The competition works in phases. Each person submits images to their own club. Those clubs forward the submissions to their council. Each council judges and selects 20 images from each division to be forwarded to the FotoClave competitions.
The normal competition rules for your Division competitions apply with, possibly, some minor changes. No image sequences are allowed. Images cannot exceed 4 MB and will be automatically reduced to 1600 pixels wide by 1200 pixels high. Try to make your images as large as possible to fit within these dimensions. Titles are limited to 200 characters. No more than the Council-set limit may be submitted by a person for the same division, regardless of the number of clubs they belong to. (For example, this limit is 5 for N4C clubs.) You may not submit any image that was previously “accepted” into a FotoClave competition.
Any prints must be matted or mounted. The mat or mount must be no larger than 16” x 20” and no smaller than 11” x 14”. Be sure to also submit a digital version via your club website so that any winning image can be displayed on this website and at the conference.
Councils will not select more than two images from each person per division to forward to the FotoClave competitions.
Prints and Projected Images are handled in the same manner for entry. An image file must be uploaded for a print so that it can be projected if the print is selected. The print is used for judging, not the digital image.
Councils make their own rules as to how their clubs enter images, but N4C & the South Bay clubs will all be using the Image Competition Manager. The final 20 images per Division sent to FotoClave for final judging must be sent via the Image Competition Manager.
Links to more detailed instructions and samples will be entered here when they are ready.
